What an exciting month!  We have hired both Instructors!!  Erica Hunter is our Field Instructor, and Candice Jones is our Seminar Instructor.  We have also filled all 25 student spots for the program!  You will certainly hear more updates in the month of June as we prepare for our June 30th start date.  You can go to our Staff Pages and learn more about our Instructors.

As we close on April, I’d like to let everyone know that Starfire U is full steam ahead.  I have accepted over half of the potential 25 participants, and expect that we will be filled in the upcoming weeks.  We are staying busy by developing Community Partners, forming our curriculum, and coordinating activities.  By the end of May, we will have hired our staff and accepted all the students for the first year of Starfire U!  Congratulations to all who have been accepted so far!

Thank you to everyone’s enthusiasm and cooperation as we develop this one-of-a-kind program.  Soon, I will be able to post our upcoming lessons and events.  More updates to come . . .

The Informational Sessions were a huge success! We had a total of over 90 people attend the sessions.  We had parents, applicants, Service Facilitators, teachers, bordering county representatives, and community partners.  We still have a lot of work ahead of us, but we are definitely moving in the right direction.

The next step is to begin accepting young adults into the program.  Our deadline has been moved up to May 1st, so be sure to get me your application!  I will also be posting our staff openings in the upcoming weeks.  More details to come . . .

Starfire U is progressing smoothly. We are planning Informational Sessions for the end of March. This is your opportunity to learn what we will be offering in July! If you are interested in attending, please contact me to register for either times. For details, you can find the flyer on our site. As for now, we are keeping busy making partnerships with community members and spreading the word about Starfire U. Since this is a brand new program, there is a lot of work ahead of us. We are thankful for the support and enthusiasm from everyone involved! A special THANKS to our Board of Trustees, the Starfire U Steering Committee, and the Hamilton County Board of MR/DD for getting this off the ground.
